RBI
RBI raises daily minimum CRR maintenance to 99% from October 16
10 October 2026 · RBI
RBI has increased the minimum daily CRR maintenance requirement for scheduled banks from 90% to 99% of the prescribed CRR, effective the fortnight beginning October 16, 2026, while the fortnightly average CRR requirement remains unchanged.
Points to Remember
- Minimum daily CRR maintenance raised from 90% to 99% of the required CRR.
- Effective from the fortnight beginning October 16, 2026.
- Applies to all scheduled banks under Section 42(1) of the RBI Act, 1934.
- Banks must still ensure the average daily CRR over the fortnight is not less than the prescribed CRR.
- Issued via RBI circular RBI/2026-27/290, DoR.RET.REC.247/12.01.001/2026-27 dated October 09, 2026.
Why it matters
Banks now have much less intra-fortnight flexibility in CRR maintenance, so daily liquidity planning needs to be tighter to avoid penalties.
