RBI lets depositories add bank deposits to CAS from Jan 1, 2027

8 October 2026 · www.business-standard.com

The RBI has permitted Sebi-regulated depositories to include bank deposit information in the Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) via NBFC-Account Aggregators, effective January 1, 2027. Governor Sanjay Malhotra said this will let demat holders view demat holdings and bank deposits in one place.

Points to Remember

  • RBI allows Sebi-regulated depositories to add bank deposit data to CAS through NBFC-Account Aggregators, effective January 1, 2027.
  • Fixed deposits and recurring deposits are expected to be covered; savings accounts are not considered investments and may not automatically appear.
  • CAS already consolidates mutual funds, demat securities and NPS under a single PAN; bank deposits were outside it so far.
  • Integration is consent-based under the Account Aggregator framework — customers must approve sharing, e.g. via a link for NSDL as Financial Information User.
  • EPF, PPF, post-office savings, small savings, physical gold, real estate and some insurance policies will remain outside CAS.

Why it matters

Customers may ask how to link deposits and why some accounts don't show up — consent and bank onboarding decide coverage, and CAS is not proof of access for heirs, so nomination and claim processes still matter.
